Wi-Fi 6 vs Wi-Fi 6E Tri-Band Routers – What is the difference between the two kind of Tri-band routers?
The difference between a Tri-Band Wifi 6 and Wifi 6E router is that a WiFi 6 tri-band routers operate using one 2.4 GHz band and two separate 5 GHz bands. By splitting the 5 GHz spectrum into two distinct portions, these routers double the available 5 GHz bandwidth to help handle traffic from multiple connected devices.
WiFi 6E tri-band routers swap out the second 5 GHz band for a brand new 6 GHz band. This means they operate on one 2.4 GHz band, one 5 GHz band, and one 6 GHz band. The addition of the 6 GHz spectrum provides significantly more bandwidth and experiences far less congestion, as it is free from the interference of older legacy devices.
The key difference in everyday use comes down to device compatibility. The new 6 GHz band on a WiFi 6E router can only be accessed by devices that specifically support WiFi 6E or WiFi 7. If you have older devices, they will still work with a WiFi 6E router, but they will automatically connect using the standard 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bands, just as they would on a regular WiFi 6 router
