Outdoor Reverse PoE Switch for Cost-Effective WISP Deployments
The NETSTAR NS-RP071P-OD is an innovative 8-port outdoor Reverse PoE (RPoE) switch featuring intelligent power management that solves a major problem for Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs)—powering network devices in remote outdoor locations. This rugged switch can be used for various applications including wireless CPEs and other PoE-enabled devices, eliminating the need for UPS or power backup at building tops and dramatically reducing operational costs.
Intelligent Power Management and Reverse PoE Technology
The NETSTAR NS-RP071P-OD can be powered using any standard PoE injector (24VDC, 0.5~1Amp) through any of the seven downlink ports. This revolutionary approach allows the switch to draw necessary power even from a single client. WISPs no longer need to worry about arranging power for the RPoE switch and other wireless CPE/PoE-enabled devices—eliminating the need to pay building owners for 24-hour power backup. Overall, the RPoE switch saves a significant amount of money and time for WISPs.
Dual PoE Out Port for Powering Other Devices
What sets the NETSTAR NS-RP071P-OD apart is its ability to power other devices. Ethernet Port 8 can power other wireless CPE or PoE-enabled devices, making it ideal for daisy-chaining or powering remote equipment. This eliminates the need for additional power sources at remote locations.
Comprehensive Protection for Outdoor Deployment
The NETSTAR NS-RP071P-OD is built with multiple protection features to ensure reliable operation in outdoor environments:
Surge Protection: Surge protection provided on each port to protect against high voltage surges on data ports and the uplink port.
Over Voltage Protection: Over voltage protection is provided on each data port to eliminate damage caused by high voltage PoE injectors. The switch will stop working if the client connects more than 24VDC PoE injector, and will start working again once this high voltage source is removed.
Over Current Protection: Over current protection is provided to eliminate damage caused due to high current flow.
Comprehensive Port Configuration
The NETSTAR NS-RP071P-OD features a versatile port arrangement designed for maximum deployment flexibility:
7 Downlink Ports (Ports 1-7): 10/100Mbps Data + PoE In ports that receive both data and power from connected devices. Any or all of these ports can power the switch.
1 Uplink Port (Port 8): 10/100Mbps Data + PoE Out port that provides both data and power output to connected devices.
Cascading Support: Switches can be cascaded for more users. With cascading, even if one customer switches on power, power will be available on all upstream switches.
Auto-Negotiation and Non-Blocking Wire Speed
Each switch port automatically detects whether connected network devices are running at 10Mbps or 100Mbps and adjusts the speed and mode accordingly, ensuring easy and hassle-free operation. The switch forwards and receives traffic seamlessly with its non-blocking wire-speed design.
Port Based Isolation for Network Security
Data from the uplink port can be transferred to any downlink port, but individual downlink ports cannot communicate with each other. Port isolation can be enabled or disabled using a DIP button, providing network segmentation and security when needed.
Outdoor-Ready Design
The NETSTAR NS-RP071P-OD is specifically designed for outdoor deployment with an operating temperature range of 0°C to 60°C and a storage temperature range of -20°C to 80°C. The rugged construction ensures reliable operation in challenging environmental conditions.
