Most Indian multi-branch businesses use the first approach since it's cheaper and doesn't depend on constant high-bandwidth uploads from every site.

Start by making sure every location has a working internet connection with a static IP or DDNS setup, since this is what lets your central monitoring software find and connect to each site's NVR remotely. Each site keeps recording locally regardless of the central connection status, which matters if one branch's internet goes down; you don't lose footage, you just lose live visibility until it reconnects.

For the central monitoring side, most NVR brands (CP Plus, Hikvision-based systems) offer their own free VMS software that can pull in multiple sites' feeds into a single dashboard, showing live views, alerts, and playback across locations from one login. This works well for up to 10-15 locations. Beyond that, purpose-built multi-site VMS platforms become worth the added cost, since they handle bandwidth management and alert prioritization better at scale.

Bandwidth is the real constraint here, not camera count. Each location needs enough upload speed to stream at least a low-resolution live feed to the central dashboard without affecting local recording quality. Budget for this when negotiating internet plans for new branches, rather than treating it as an afterthought once cameras are already installed.
