TP-Link Archer AXE75 vs Archer BE550: is upgrading from Wi-Fi 6E to Wi-Fi 7 worth it?

Yes, the Archer BE550 is a meaningful upgrade over the AXE75. It brings Wi-Fi 7 with MLO and 4K-QAM, 320 MHz channels on 6 GHz, and all 2.5G Ethernet ports. The AXE75 is a Wi-Fi 6E router capped at 160 MHz channels, 1024-QAM, and mostly Gigabit LAN ports. If you are buying new today, the BE550 is the better investment.

The AXE75 (AXE5400) totals 5,400 Mbps across three bands, all at 2x2 Wi-Fi 6E specs. Its 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands each deliver up to 2,402 Mbps at 160 MHz. The BE550 (BE9300) totals roughly 9,200 Mbps with its 6 GHz band reaching 5,760 Mbps at 320 MHz. That doubles the peak wireless throughput on the fastest band, though you need a Wi-Fi 7 client to benefit.

On wired ports, the BE550 has five 2.5G ports. The AXE75 has one 2.5G WAN/LAN port and four Gigabit LAN ports, according to TP-Link's spec page. If you wire a NAS, gaming PC, or smart TV, the BE550's 2.5G LAN ports deliver roughly 2 Gbps of real-world throughput per device versus the AXE75's 940 Mbps ceiling on its Gigabit ports.

The BE550's MLO bonds two bands into a single link, reducing latency spikes during video calls and cloud gaming. This feature does not exist on Wi-Fi 6E at all. 4K-QAM packs about 20% more data per signal versus the AXE75's 1024-QAM, improving efficiency even at the same channel width.

On the AXE75's side, it runs a more mature firmware with years of updates, and its lower price makes it reasonable for homes where no device supports Wi-Fi 7 yet.

Best for: The BE550 if you are buying fresh or upgrading from Wi-Fi 5/6. The AXE75 if budget is tight and all your devices are Wi-Fi 6E or older.

Not for: The AXE75 for new purchases where future-proofing matters. The BE550 if you have zero Wi-Fi 7 devices and no plans to upgrade soon.
