TP-Link XX530v vs Archer AX53 – which one do you need?
The TP-Link XX530v and Archer AX53 are both AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 routers with identical wireless speeds, but they're built for different setups. The XX530v is an XPON router with a built-in fiber port - it replaces both your ONT and router in one box, connecting directly to your ISP's fiber line. The Archer AX53 is a standard Ethernet router with no fiber port, so you still need a separate ONT or modem. If you're on fiber broadband in India and want a single device, the XX530v makes more sense. If you already have a working ONT and just need better Wi-Fi, the AX53 is the simpler and slightly cheaper option.
What's different between the XX530v and AX53?
The core difference is connectivity. The XX530v has a PON port (SC/APC fiber connector) that plugs directly into your ISP's fiber line. It supports both GPON and EPON standards, which cover most Indian fiber ISPs, including BSNL FTTH, Airtel Xstream, Jio Fiber, ACT Fibernet, and Railtel. You don't need a separate ONT box.
The Archer AX53 has no fiber port at all. It connects through a standard Ethernet WAN port. If you're on fiber broadband, you'll still need the ONT your ISP gave you, and the AX53 sits behind it as a dedicated Wi-Fi router.
Beyond the fiber port, here are the other differences that matter:
| Feature | XX530v | Archer AX53 |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi standard | Wi-Fi 6 (AX3000) | Wi-Fi 6 (AX3000) |
| 5 GHz speed | 2402 Mbps | 2402 Mbps |
| 2.4 GHz speed | 574 Mbps | 574 Mbps |
| Fiber port (PON) | Yes - GPON + EPON | No |
| Ethernet WAN | 1x Gigabit (WAN/LAN combo) | 1x Gigabit (dedicated WAN) |
| LAN ports | 3x Gigabit | 4x Gigabit |
| USB port | USB 2.0 | USB 3.0 |
| VoIP (phone port) | Yes - FXS port | No |
| Mesh support | EasyMesh | EasyMesh + OneMesh |
| Security suite | WPA3, parental controls | WPA3, HomeShield |
| Management app | Aginet | Tether |
| Alexa support | No | Yes |
| Warranty (India) | 3 years | 3 years |
Which one should you buy?
If you're on fiber broadband and want a single device that handles everything - fiber termination, routing, Wi-Fi, and VoIP - the XX530v is the simpler setup. One device, one power adapter, one less point of failure.
If you already have a working ONT from your ISP and just want better Wi-Fi, the Archer AX53 is the better pick. It has a dedicated WAN port (the XX530v's WAN/LAN combo means one fewer usable LAN port), USB 3.0 for faster file sharing, HomeShield security features, and support for both EasyMesh and TP-Link's older OneMesh ecosystem - so you have more options for mesh expansion.
One practical note: if you go with the XX530v as your fiber gateway, firmware updates come from your ISP or TP-Link's service provider channel. With the AX53, you get consumer-facing firmware updates directly from TP-Link and broader community support. For most home users, this doesn't matter day to day, but it's worth knowing if you like having control over router firmware.
