TP-Link xx530v vs xx230v – what’s the difference?

The TP-Link xx530v is faster and more versatile than the xx230v. The xx530v is AX3000 (2402 Mbps on 5 GHz), supports both GPON and EPON fiber standards, and handles higher-speed plans comfortably. The XX230v is AX1800 (1201 Mbps on 5 GHz) and only works with GPON connections. If your ISP uses EPON or you have a plan above 300 Mbps, the XX230v won't cut it - the XX530v is the only option between the two. If you're on GPON with a plan of 100-300 Mbps and fewer than 20 devices, the XX230v handles the basics at a lower price.

When is the xx530v worth the extra cost?

The 5 GHz speed difference is significant - 2402 Mbps vs 1201 Mbps. If you have a 500 Mbps or 1 Gbps fiber plan and multiple devices streaming or gaming simultaneously on 5 GHz, the XX530v will handle that load better. The XX230v's 1201 Mbps 5 GHz is fine for plans up to about 300 Mbps with moderate device counts.

The other dealbreaker is fiber compatibility. The XX230v only works with GPON networks. The XX530v supports both GPON and EPON. If your ISP uses EPON (some smaller regional ISPs in India do), the XX230v simply won't work. Check with your ISP before buying.

When is the xx230v enough?

If you're on a GPON connection with a plan of 100-300 Mbps and fewer than 15-20 devices, the XX230v covers your needs without overspending. The 2.4 GHz band is identical on both models, and the core features - VoIP, EasyMesh, WPA3, parental controls, Aginet app - are the same.
