Why are Tri-Band Routers so expensive?
Tri-band routers are more expensive primarily because they require more physical hardware than standard dual-band models. To broadcast a third frequency band, manufacturers must install extra radios and additional antennas.Â
In models that feature a 6 GHz band, the cost increases further because the 6 GHz frequency cannot share radios or antennas with the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
Additionally, housing these extra internal components means tri-band routers draw more power and generate more heat. This often forces manufacturers to design a larger physical chassis to properly cool the device, adding to the overall production and material expenses.
Because of this added hardware, entry level tri-band routers usually cost ₹4,000 to ₹7,000 more than their dual-band counterparts, while premium models that support Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 can cost hundreds of dollars more.
