TP-Link Archer BE550 V1 vs V2: What changed inside and why it matters?

The V1 uses Qualcomm's Network Pro 620 platform with a quad-core 2.2 GHz Cortex-A73 CPU and 1 GB RAM. The V2 switches to Qualcomm's Immersive Home 326 platform with a quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and the same 1 GB RAM. Per BlackTubi's review, the V2 uses a lower-tier SoC, which is a downgrade on paper.

The external specs, port layout, and Wi-Fi band configuration remain the same between V1 and V2. Both are BE9300 tri-band routers with five 2.5G ports, 6 internal antennas, and the same rated coverage. TP-Link does not highlight or advertise the hardware change. You will not find it on the product page.

The Cortex-A73 cores in the V1 are higher-performance than the Cortex-A53 cores in the V2. A73 is an out-of-order execution core designed for performance workloads, while A53 is an in-order efficiency core. In a router, this affects how quickly the CPU handles concurrent connections, VPN processing, NAT throughput, and features like HomeShield scanning. For a household with 30+ devices, heavy QoS, or VPN usage, the V1's CPU has more headroom.

Firmware is not cross-compatible. V1 and V2 have separate firmware tracks, meaning a bug fixed on V1 may not be patched on V2 at the same time. The TP-Link community forums have flagged feature parity gaps between the two, with some V2 owners reporting that certain features available on V1 firmware took longer to arrive on V2.

You cannot choose the version when buying online. TP-Link does not change the EAN/UPC code between hardware revisions, so retailers stock whichever version they received. The hardware version is printed on the router's label.

Best for: If you can find V1 stock, it is the stronger hardware. V2 works fine for basic routing and light usage.

Not for: Buyers expecting identical performance. The SoC downgrade is real, even if wireless speeds are nominally the same.
