TP-link Archer BE550 vs BE550 Pro: what does the BE9700 vs BE9300 gap mean?

The Archer BE550 Pro (BE9700) gives you a 10G WAN port and Wi-Fi 7 on all three bands, including 2.4 GHz. The standard BE550 (BE9300) lacks both. If your internet plan is under 2.5 Gbps and you have no NAS needing 10G uplink, the BE550 saves you money without a meaningful wireless speed loss.

The BE9300 and BE9700 labels refer to combined theoretical bandwidth across all bands. TP-Link's Archer BE550 totals roughly 9,214 Mbps (574 + 2,880 + 5,760), while the BE550 Pro totals approximately 9,700 Mbps. That 500 Mbps difference comes from the Pro's higher 2.4 GHz throughput, roughly 1,032 Mbps versus 574 Mbps, because it runs Wi-Fi 7 on the 2.4 GHz band rather than Wi-Fi 6.

In practice, the 2.4 GHz band maxes out at 40 MHz channel width regardless of the Wi-Fi generation, so the real-world speed gain is small. Dong Ngo's testing at Dong Knows Tech found that real-world 2.4 GHz performance is similar across BE9300 and BE9700 class routers because the band's inherent limitations cap throughput well below the theoretical numbers.

Where the Pro does pull ahead is wired connectivity. The 10G WAN/LAN port matters if your ISP plan exceeds 2.5 Gbps or you run a local NAS at multi-gig speeds. The BE550's five 2.5G ports handle up to 2 Gbps of real-world throughput per port after overhead, which is more than enough for most Indian broadband plans from Jio, Airtel, or ACT.

The Pro also enables MLO across all three bands, including 2.4 GHz, while the standard BE550 supports MLO only on 5 GHz and 6 GHz. This matters if you have older Wi-Fi 7 clients that use 2.4 GHz for MLO fallback, but most current Wi-Fi 7 devices bond 5 GHz and 6 GHz anyway.

Best for: The BE550 Pro suits users with 2.5G+ internet plans or local 10G NAS requirements. The standard BE550 is the better pick for Gigabit or slower connections where that 10G port would go unused.

Not for: The Pro is overkill if your broadband tops out at 1 Gbps, which covers most Indian fibre plans today.
