Archer BE600 vs Archer BE550: is the 10G port and extra coverage worth it?
The Archer BE600 adds a 10G WAN/LAN port, external antennas for broader coverage (2,600 sq ft rated versus 2,000 sq ft), and a higher combined bandwidth of 9,700 Mbps. The BE550 keeps things simpler with five 2.5G ports and a compact internal-antenna design at a lower price. For most Indian homes on Gigabit or slower plans, the BE550 is enough.
Both are TP-Link tri-band Wi-Fi 7 routers sharing the same firmware, Tether app, EasyMesh support, HomeShield, VPN client/server, and MLO. The wireless difference is on the 2.4 GHz band: the BE600 pushes roughly 1,032 Mbps (Wi-Fi 7 on 2.4 GHz) while the BE550 runs 574 Mbps (Wi-Fi 6 on 2.4 GHz). On 5 GHz and 6 GHz, the speeds are practically identical, around 2,880 Mbps and 5,760 Mbps respectively.
The 10G port is the biggest hardware differentiator. If you have or plan to get a NAS with a 10G NIC, or your ISP offers a plan faster than 2.5 Gbps, the BE600 makes sense. Otherwise, that port sits unused. Both routers cap real-world wired throughput at roughly 2 Gbps per 2.5G port after Ethernet overhead, which handles any current Indian fibre plan comfortably.
Design-wise, the BE600 has six external antennas and a traditional flat form factor. The BE550 is a compact standing rectangle with internal antennas. The external antennas give the BE600 a modest coverage edge, but in a 2BHK or 3BHK flat, both cover the space when placed centrally.
Best for: The BE600 suits homes over 2,000 sq ft, users with 2.5G+ internet, or anyone running a multi-gig NAS. The BE550 suits apartments and Gigabit connections where the compact design is a plus.
Not for: The BE600 is unnecessary if your broadband tops out at 1 Gbps and your wired devices are all Gigabit.
