TP-Link Archer AX12 vs Tenda AX12: Which Wi-Fi 6 router should you buy?
If your internet plan is above 200 Mbps and your budget allows, the Tenda AX12 gives you meaningfully more headroom. If you're on a 100-200 Mbps plan and value after-sales support and ecosystem compatibility, the TP-Link AX12 is the safer pick for the Indian market
These two share nothing beyond the "AX12" label. The TP-Link Archer AX12 is an entry-level AX1500 router. The Tenda AX12 is a mid-range AX3000 router. The Tenda is the faster, more capable device - roughly double the maximum theoretical Wi-Fi bandwidth - and the comparison comes down to whether that speed difference justifies the price gap.
The specs gap
The Tenda AX12 delivers 2402 Mbps on the 5 GHz band and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz (AX3000 total), per Tenda's global product page. The TP-Link AX12 delivers 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz (AX1500 total). That's roughly double the wireless bandwidth on both bands.
The Tenda also supports 160 MHz channel width on 5 GHz. Paired with a phone or laptop that supports 160 MHz (Many flagship phones and laptops released since 2021 support 160 MHz Wi-Fi 6, although support varies by chipset and region), you'll see noticeably faster local file transfers and higher peak wireless throughput on local network tasks. The TP-Link AX12 is limited to 80 MHz channels.
Both routers have gigabit Ethernet, OFDMA, MU-MIMO, and WPA3. The TP-Link supports EasyMesh. The Tenda supports mesh networking within Tenda's ecosystem (model dependent). The Tenda adds VPN client support (OpenVPN, WireGuard, PPTP, L2TP) and a dedicated IoT network that isolates smart home devices on a separate SSID - useful if you're running budget smart plugs or cameras that don't get regular security patches.
The Tenda AX12 has five external antennas versus the TP-Link's four. More antennas don't automatically mean better range. Tenda also includes external FEM signal amplifiers, which are designed to improve signal strength and coverage, although actual range depends heavily on the home layout.
Where the TP-Link holds its ground?
TP-Link's ecosystem advantage matters in India. The Tether app is mature and well-documented. TP-Link service centres are widespread. TP-Link generally provides firmware updates for longer than Tenda - Recent firmware releases have added EasyMesh Ethernet backhaul support for supported Archer AX12 hardware versions in some regions. Tenda's after-sales presence in India is thinner, and firmware update frequency for older models tends to drop off faster.
If your broadband plan is 100-200 Mbps, the TP-Link AX12's AX1500 speeds won't bottleneck anything. The Tenda's extra throughput only shows a real-world difference on plans above 300 Mbps, on local file transfers between devices, or when multiple people are streaming simultaneously on the 5 GHz band.

Tenda AX12 for 100-200 Mbps plans, 160 MHz device owners, and VPN users.
