Is WiFi 6 outdated now?
WiFi 6 isn't outdated. Just that it isn’t the newest anymore. As of 2026, WiFi 6 is still a mainstream choice for home and business networks, offering a strong combination of speed, capacity and reliability.
WiFi 7 is the new standard, and WiFi 7 routers now outsell Wi-Fi 6 models. But judging WiFi purely on their maximum theoretical speed is not recommended. The router's speed is only one part of the equation. The actual experience also depends on the internet connection, device capabilities, network congestion and the number of connected devices.
For the daily office and home connectivity, a good WiFi 6 router can provide more than enough performance. In fact, if the internet connection is below 1 Gbps and most of your devices are Wi-Fi 6 or older, moving to Wi-Fi 7 may provide little practical benefit for additional cost.
