Why is the your CCTV showing “no HDD” or “No Storage” error?
Your CCTV system says "No HDD" becaause the recorder cannot find or read the internal hard disk drive used to save video.
Common Causes
- Loose cables: The power or SATA data cable inside the recorder has come unplugged.
- Power supply issue: The power adapter for your DVR or NVR cannot supply enough electricity to spin up the hard drive.
- Dead hard drive: The hard drive has failed from age or continuous 24/7 use.
- Port or motherboard failure: The SATA port on the recorder's motherboard is broken.
- Unformatted drive: A new or corrupted drive needs formatting before the system can read it.
How to Fix It
- Check the power supply: Make sure your DVR/NVR uses the correct power adapter (usually 12V and at least 2A). A weak adapter powers the lights but fails to run the hard drive.
- Check internal connections: Turn off and unplug the recorder. Open the metal case and unplug the SATA data and power cables from the hard drive, then plug them back in firmly.
- Format the disk: If the system sees the drive in the menu under HDD Management but still shows an error, try formatting it through the storage settings. (Warning: This deletes existing video footage).
- Replace the hard drive: If cables are secure and the drive still does not spin or show up, the drive is likely dead and must be replaced with a new surveillance-grade model.
