MikroTik heX Refresh E50UG vs RB750Gr3: Which one should you buy?

The MikroTik heX E50UG and RB750Gr3 are both compact five-port RouterOS routers, but the E50UG is the newer hEX refresh with a newer ARM processor and more memory.

MikroTik identifies the E50UG as the hEX refresh. It's a dual-core 950 MHz ARM CPU, 512 MB RAM, 128 MB NAND storage, five 1G Ethernet ports and a USB 2.0 Type-A port.

The older RB750Gr3 hEX uses a dual-core 880 MHz CPU and 256 MB RAM, with five Gigabit Ethernet ports, USB and microSD support.

Both devices are wired routers rather than conventional all-in-one Wi-Fi routers. MikroTik specifically describes the RB750Gr3 as a router for locations where wireless connectivity is not required.

That makes these devices particularly interesting for users who want RouterOS features such as routing, firewalling, VLANs, VPNs and advanced network configuration.

The E50UG's newer ARM platform and larger memory capacity provide a more modern hardware foundation. The RB750Gr3, however, remains a supported RouterOS platform and has a long history as a compact wired router.

For someone building a home or small-office network with separate Wi-Fi access points, either can serve as the routing component.

The choice depends on whether you want the newer hardware platform and additional memory or are working with an existing RB750Gr3 installation.

It is also important to consider the actual RouterOS configuration. Heavy firewall rules, VPN workloads, queues and other advanced functions can affect performance.

For current buyers starting from scratch, the E50UG is the newer hardware platform, while the RB750Gr3 remains relevant where its existing hardware, configuration or lower-cost availability makes sense.
